Its constructed by Salah al-Din on the Moqattam Hills in 1183 AD as a defense against Crusader armies.
Also, See the Alabaster Mosque at the Citadel of Salah El-Din (called The Mosque of Mohamed Ali Pasha). Still used as a place of worship today, the Alabaster Mosque is the most important mosque in Cairo.
The Mosque of Mohamed Ali was designed by the Turkish architect (Youssef Boushnaq), who came to Cairo especially from Istanbul to build the great building, the mosque’s alabaster structure stands in beautiful contrast to the sandstone city. The tour guide will take you inside the mosque and give you an overview of the mosque’s history.
